“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”
~Abraham Lincoln
It’s been five years since our last reunion, and we’d like to think we’ve been successful with gathering more information on the family. You will be quite impressed with the story boards Lucy has elaborated on from our last reunion. She has created one for every descendant of E. C. and Polly Ann Osteen Summerlin. Quite an undertaking but just the right person to pull it together with her love of ancestry and history in general. It’s been our pleasure to share this history with our community but especially with you.
During this time, we’ve held some fish fry fundraisers to help fund the reunion. We hosted a fish fry and history session with fish stories and artifacts from the sea during the History Festival each year they were held during this timeframe. We participated in the 100 years celebration of the Fort Pierce inlet with a fish fry and storytelling through the boards and interaction with the community in May of 2021. And we helped in raising funds for the artificial reef program and sinking of the Tug Singleton in July of 2021.
We’ve lost some dear loved ones also and although we miss them dearly, and we are sure you do as well, let’s cherish every memory and moment spent with them. How could we not? Treasure these capsules of time while you can.
Read the stories. Play the games with the kids. Eat the food. Listen to the music. Laugh and share your story. Walk away with a better understanding of your past and a plan for your future.
Our next project will be to put together a cookbook of family recipes. Be thinking of what you’d like to contribute to it. We hope this will turn out to be a great fundraiser for the next reunion in five years. Any takers on the committee? Lucy, Peggy, and I will be passing the baton to someone else. Think about it!
There are so many people to thank for helping put together this year’s reunion and this website as well. You know who you are and are much appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We’re all family and connected by our roots.
See you on Sunday!
Your Summerlin Family Reunion Committee
